The NCHR stated that the decision reflects international appreciation for Egypt’s efforts to strengthen its human rights framework and align national institutions with the Paris Principles.

It also reflects confidence in its independence and effectiveness, acknowledging its ongoing work to promote civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights; handle complaints; monitor detention facilities; engage with civil society; and foster a culture of human rights at both national and regional levels, added the NCHR.

According to the statement, the UN committee commended the steps taken by the NCHR to advance this mission, particularly its continued coordination with state bodies to finalize legislative amendments before the end of the year.

The committee described these steps as a positive model of constructive institutional cooperation between the state and national human rights mechanisms.

The NCHR expressed deep appreciation to its partners across government, parliament, and civil society for their support and cooperation in achieving this milestone.

It reaffirmed its commitment to continue safeguarding rights and freedoms in accordance with the Egyptian Constitution and international treaties, as well as following up on relevant UN recommendations.

Maintaining “A” status constitutes an international acknowledgement of the council’s independence and institutional progress, underscoring its role as a national model for effective partnership between the state and society in advancing human rights reform and enhancing Egypt’s standing in regional and international forums.
