Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s firm and consistent stance on the Libyan crisis, stressing that a Libyan-led political solution remains the only viable path to ending the conflict and achieving lasting security and stability in the country.

He emphasized that this solution must be fully owned and led by the Libyans themselves, achieved through dialogue and consensus among all parties under the auspices of the United Nations, and without any foreign interference or external pressure.

FM Abdelatty made his remarks on Thursday during the Trilateral Mechanism Meeting of Libya’s Neighbouring Countries, held in Algiers and attended by Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf and Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti.

During the meeting, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for the Libyan people and for UN and regional efforts aimed at unifying Libya’s institutions and ending internal divisions, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ambassador Tamim Khalaf said.

The foreign minister warned that the continuation of the split and the absence of a unified executive authority would prevent genuine stability from returning to Libya.

He called for unified Arab efforts, particularly from neighbouring countries, to encourage Libyan parties to advance the implementation of the UN mission’s roadmap. This includes forming a new unified government to prepare for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible.

Abdelatty also stressed the need for the withdrawal of all foreign forces, fighters, and mercenaries from Libyan territory without exception or delay, in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.

He said this step is essential to restore Libya’s full sovereignty and safeguard its security, stability, and territorial integrity.

He underlined that Libya’s security is an integral part of Egypt’s and the Arab world’s national security.

Minister Abdelatty further called for a comprehensive approach to resolving the Libyan crisis, one that addresses its political, economic, security, and social dimensions.

He cautioned that focusing on a single track would fail to tackle the root causes of the crisis and achieve lasting stability in Libya and the wider region.

Egypt's top diplomat concluded by reaffirming that Egypt will continue close coordination and consultation with Algeria and Tunisia within the framework of this Trilateral Mechanism, in support of the Libyan people's aspirations for security, development, and prosperity.
