The Trilateral Partnership is a new era of stability in the Eastern Mediterranean, and has matured into a cornerstone for regional stability, security, and sustainable development.
The success of the Egypt–Greece–Cyprus trilateral framework lies in its comprehensive and institutionalized nature. Since its inception, the mechanism has fostered cooperation across political, economic, defense, migration, and cultural sectors.
The regular summits serve as a vital platform for the three nations to align their strategies and maximize their collective influence. This sustained dialogue has transformed the relationship into a deep, strategic partnership.
This cooperation is particularly crucial in a volatile region. The three countries share a common interest in upholding international law, particularly the Law of the Sea, and promoting a rules-based order. By presenting a united front, they have effectively created a stable axis that acts as a powerful counterweight.
The commitment to mutual solidarity reflects a collective determination to secure their shared maritime and economic interests.
The recent 10th Trilateral Summit in Cairo, under the leadership of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, and with the presence of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, along with continuous high-level engagement, underscores an unwavering commitment to mutual solidarity and a shared vision for a prosperous future.
Recently, the 6th trilateral meeting of Greece, Cyprus, and Egypt on diaspora issues, within the framework of the “NOSTOS” program, was held in Cyprus on 11 November.
Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yiannis Loverdos represented the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while on the Egyptian side, the representative was the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates, Ambassador Nabil Habashi.
On the Cypriot side, the delegation was led by the Permanent Secretary of the Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Theodora Constantinidou.
During the meetings, the excellent climate of this trilateral cooperation was reaffirmed, and an exchange of views took place on further promoting synergies in the fields of culture and education, with an emphasis on implementing joint initiatives for new generations of expatriates.
In particular, the Greek deputy minister stressed the importance of scientific diplomacy and the role it can play in strengthening ties between the diaspora communities of the three countries.
Loverdos noted that emphasis should be placed not only on the glorious past of the three countries, but also on the present and the future, utilizing the many remarkable members of the diasporas of Greece, Cyprus, and Egypt.
Perhaps the most tangible and forward-looking aspect of this trilateral partnership is the focus on energy.
The coordinated efforts of Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus are central to unlocking this potential for the benefit of the entire European continent.
The partnership has been instrumental in strengthening energy collaboration, with the goal of establishing a secure and diversified energy supply route to Europe.
Recent agreements between Greece, Cyprus, and Egypt on natural gas projects are a prime example of this synergy.
Ongoing discussions to enhance joint efforts to transport natural gas and develop energy infrastructure reflect a shared vision for a sustainable economic future. This energy nexus not only benefits the three partners but also positions them as indispensable players in Europe’s energy security architecture, a role that has gained even greater importance in the current geopolitical climate.
The trilateral cooperation between Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus represents a triumph of diplomacy and shared strategic vision. From securing the Eastern Mediterranean’s energy future to promoting regional stability and expanding its strategic influence, this axis is actively shaping a more secure and prosperous future for the region. The unwavering commitment confirms that this partnership is thriving.
