Egypt appreciates Japan’s contribution to key national projects: Madbouly to Takaichi

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly expressed on Sunday Egypt's appreciation of Japan’s contribution to many major national and developmental projects, especially the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), during his meeting with his Japanese counterpart, Sanae Takaichi, on the sidelines of the 2025 G20 summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.

During the meeting, Madbouly also praised the Egyptian-Japanese partnership in the field of education, looking forward to further cooperation between both countries in various fields, particularly in advancing technological industries, as well as artificial intelligence and aspects related to AI governance.

Additionally, the Egyptian PM expressed the state's keenness to explore new and broader avenues for economic cooperation between Cairo and Tokyo, in light of their shared vision on several issues, most notably climate change.

The Egyptian PM also highlighted trilateral cooperation between the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD), and African countries, in addition to supporting ongoing cooperation in the fields of peacekeeping and peacebuilding.

During the meeting, Madbouly valued the historic ties between both countries, which span more than 70 years and were elevated to the level of a strategic partnership in April 2023 during former Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's visit to Cairo and meeting with President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.

For her part, the Japanese PM valued the cooperation between both countries in various fields, looking forward to further expanding the frameworks of cooperation with Egypt, and to building on what was agreed upon during recent visits of senior Japanese officials to Egypt, as well as during Madbouly's recent visit to Japan.

She also praised the historic relations between the two countries.

According to the Egyptian cabinet, the Egyptian PM also held another meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart, Pham Minh Chinh, where they discussed bilateral ties and ways to further strengthen them across vital fields.

Additionally, Madbouly attended a session titled "Toward a Resilient World: The G20’s Contribution to Reducing Disaster Risks, Climate Change, a Just Energy Transition, and Food Systems," where he called on the G20 to assume a leading role in enhancing the function of multilateral development banks in financing climate action.

Madbouly's participation in the G20 Summit, held on 22-23 November, marks Egypt's third consecutive appearance at the summit and the fifth since the group's founding in 1999.
