During a press conference at Baabda Palace, FM Abdelatty warned against any military escalation, stressing Egypt’s rejection of armed conflict in Lebanon and its support for diplomatic solutions.
“Experience has shown that all military solutions in the region have failed,” he said, noting that the Middle East is at a critical juncture requiring collective restraint.
Abdelatty added that Egypt is in close contact with all parties to prevent further escalation and promote peaceful solutions.
He highlighted that Lebanon’s unity and the strength of its institutions remain central to Egypt’s longstanding position. “Decision-making must remain sovereign and independent,” he said.
The Egyptian top diplomat stressed Egypt’s interest in supporting efforts to maintain stability, including backing presidential initiatives to preserve calm and safeguard national institutions.
He further emphasized the importance of ensuring that weapons remain exclusively under the authority of the Lebanese state and called for the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 by all sides.
Lebanon, he said, plays a key role in regional stability, and Egypt is working with all relevant actors to reduce tensions along the Lebanese-Israeli border and prevent broader conflict.
When asked about communication with Hezbollah, Abdelatty said Egypt respects Lebanon’s decision-making process and is committed to its security and stability.
He called on all parties to act responsibly, de-escalate tensions, and uphold state authority.
During his fourth visit to Lebanon in the past 18 months, FM Abdelatty expressed hope for Lebanon’s prosperity, stability, and progress. He reiterated Egypt’s ongoing efforts to ensure stability, prevent escalation, and stop acts of aggression.
He also stressed support for Lebanese initiatives to ensure that arms remain under state control and for the Lebanese Army to assume control of southern areas currently occupied by Israel.
Ahead of the press conference, Abdelatty met with President Aoun to discuss ways Egypt can support Lebanon and strengthen bilateral relations.
A foreign ministry statement said Abdelatty, following President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s directives, conveyed Egypt’s appreciation for Lebanon’s history and unity, wishing the country stability and prosperity.
Abdelatty also highlighted Egypt’s historic ties with Lebanon and its commitment to expand cooperation in economic, investment, cultural, and development fields.
He stressed Egypt’s determination to support Lebanon during this sensitive period, guided by principles of unity, sovereignty, security, and stability.
He expressed concern over increasing Israeli attacks on Lebanese territory, calling for collective efforts to prevent escalation and full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, including Israeli withdrawal and respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty.
Abdelatty praised President Aoun’s national leadership and affirmed Egypt’s readiness to use its regional and international influence to support stability and Lebanon’s institutions.
For his part, President Aoun conveyed his greetings and appreciation to President El-Sisi, expressing gratitude for Egypt’s unwavering support for Lebanon across all circumstances and its constructive role in promoting regional stability.
He emphasized the importance of ongoing coordination between the two countries and strengthening bilateral cooperation to serve their peoples’ interests and regional security.
They also discussed regional developments, with Abdelatty briefing Aoun on Egypt’s efforts with international partners to uphold the Sharm El-Sheikh peace agreement, implement UN resolutions on Gaza, and prepare for the International Conference on Early Recovery and Reconstruction of Gaza.
He said these efforts aim to reinforce regional stability and create a safer environment for Lebanon and the wider region.
On Tuesday, President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and stability in a phone call with Aoun, congratulating him on Lebanon’s 82nd Independence Day.
El-Sisi stressed Egypt’s commitment to the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and reiterated Cairo’s backing of the Lebanese government’s policy that all weapons remain under state authority.
President Aoun thanked El-Sisi for Egypt’s continued support, emphasizing Lebanon’s commitment to strengthening state control over arms and its long-standing ties with Cairo.
