The statement came in response to the Parliament of Spain’s Navarre region awarding its Gold Medal—the highest honour conferred by the regional legislature—to “the Palestinian people” and to all organizations and individuals providing humanitarian assistance to Gaza and Palestine.
According to the observatory, the medal was presented during the Navarre Day 2025 celebrations at an official ceremony held in the parliament’s session hall.
The statement noted that the award represents a significant gesture of recognition for Palestinian resilience and humanitarian efforts.
The medal was received by Hosni Abdel Wahid, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Spain, alongside a representative of the Salam Gaza Navarre association.
The ceremony featured a reading of the resolution adopted by the parliament’s bureau on 24 November, followed by remarks from Unai Hualde, President of the regional legislature, the Palestinian ambassador, and the association’s representative.
Al-Azhar Observatory emphasized that the honour reflects strong popular and regional support for the Palestinian cause in Spain and conveys “a powerful message” from a regional legislative body about the need to support civilian victims.
The observatory described the Navarre Parliament’s decision as an “important ethical and humanitarian step.”
The observatory added that this institutional recognition is not merely symbolic but underscores the need to diplomatically and politically isolate the Israeli occupation over its escalating violations, while reinforcing humanitarian solidarity with victims.
The observatory urged other European parliaments and institutions to follow Spain’s example by translating public support into official actions that help pressure for an immediate end to the aggression and uphold the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
