In a phone call on Tuesday, the two sides underscored the importance of continuing close coordination and consultation on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
Regarding the situation in Sudan, both sides stressed the importance of supporting Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity and maintaining continued coordination within the Quad framework.
They reaffirmed their full rejection of any attempts to divide the country or undermine its stability, according to a foreign ministry statement.
The two sides also renewed their condemnation of the treacherous attack on the United Nations mission headquarters in the city of Kadugli and expressed their full solidarity with the Sudanese people at this critical juncture.
For his part, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for Sudan’s national institutions, stressing the need to launch an effective humanitarian track that ensures the unhindered delivery of aid.
He also urged increased relief assistance and enhanced cooperation with the United Nations, the African Union, and humanitarian agencies.
He emphasized the need for coordinated regional and international efforts to support a comprehensive ceasefire, the statement added.
The top Egyptian diplomat added that these efforts should create conditions for an inclusive political process that meets the Sudanese people’s aspirations for security, stability, and development, while preserving the unity of the state and its institutions.
On Libya, Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast position in support of Libya’s unity and territorial integrity and the necessity of preserving its national state institutions.
He stressed called for a comprehensive political settlement with full Libyan ownership, leading to the simultaneous holding of presidential and parliamentary elections at the earliest possible opportunity.
He also reiterated the necessity of the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libyan territory, and the dismantling of armed militias to achieve stability and security in Libya and the region.
According to the statement, the call also addressed developments in the Great Lakes region, where Abdelatty commended US efforts that led to the signing of the Washington Agreement between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda.
He stressed the need to de-escalate current tensions and implement the provisions of the agreement as a fundamental framework for building confidence and easing tensions.
Meanwhile, he underscored Egypt’s support for efforts to achieve peace and to entrench the foundations of reconciliation, thereby opening the door to comprehensive development in the region.
The foreign minister reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for all efforts to consolidate regional security and stability and strengthen good neighbourly relations.
