The ministry said Egypt aims to support safe and regular migration, expand opportunities for a better life, and curb irregular migration through long-term, sustainable solutions rather than security measures alone.
It added that Egypt has long served as a haven for migrants, hosting more than 10 million foreign nationals, including migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers.
The statement stressed that Egypt provides essential services in line with its regional role, international commitments, and humanitarian responsibilities toward those living on its territory.
It noted that Egypt remains committed to combating migrant smuggling networks and reducing irregular migration through an integrated approach that includes humanitarian, social, and development dimensions.
This approach includes expanding safe and legal migration opportunities, particularly for skilled workers, investing in youth training and skills development to meet local and international labour market needs, and advancing economic and social development so that migration is a choice rather than a necessity.
The ministry warned citizens, especially young people, against fraudulent job offers promoted through websites or recruitment offices in some countries, whether by Egyptian or foreign intermediaries, urging them to verify employment opportunities through official and legal channels.
It also stressed the need to comply with legal travel and entry requirements, including obtaining valid visas, to protect lives and human dignity and avoid repeated tragedies linked to irregular migration.
World Migrants Day is observed annually on 18 December to highlight the rights, dignity, and contributions of migrants worldwide, as well as the challenges they face.
The date marks the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families in 1990.
The day is used by governments, international organisations, and civil society groups to promote safe, orderly, and regular migration in line with the UN Global Compact for Migration, adopted in 2018.
It also draws attention to the vulnerabilities of migrants, particularly those exposed to trafficking, smuggling networks, and irregular migration routes.
World Migrants Day has gained greater significance in recent years amid rising global displacement driven by conflict, climate change, and economic pressures.
According to UN estimates, over 280 million people currently live outside their country of origin, making international migration a central policy issue for both origin and host countries.
