PM Madbouly affirms Cairo's unwavering support for Beirut in talks with Lebanese leaders

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly affirmed on Friday Egypt’s firm stance in supporting Lebanon’s stability, sovereignty, and the unity of its institutions during a meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun in Beirut.

PM Madbouly, who is visiting Lebanon at the head of a high-level delegation, also reiterated to the Lebanese president Egypt's willingness to assist Lebanon in this critical phase.

The Egyptian PM noted that his visit sends a political message of support for Lebanon, reaffirming that Cairo supports efforts to achieve security and stability and enforce state sovereignty over the entire Lebanese territory.

Moreover, Madbouly emphasized Egypt’s full support for implementing the cessation of hostilities agreement and ending Israeli violations of Lebanese sovereignty.

In addition, he affirmed the importance of withdrawing all Israeli forces from southern Lebanon.

This withdrawal, Madbouly noted, would enable the Lebanese Army and national institutions to implement UN Resolution 1701 and extend state authority over all Lebanese territory.

Similarly, the Egyptian PM rejected any threats to Lebanon’s stability. He praised President Aoun’s efforts to strengthen internal stability, reactivate institutions, encourage continued national dialogue, and prioritize Lebanon’s national interest.

The Lebanese president, for his part, valued Egypt’s support for Lebanon. He emphasized that Lebanon relies on Egypt’s support and praised President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s commitment to Lebanon’s security, stability, and progress. He also looked forward to achieving security and peace in Lebanon and the wider region.

According to the Egyptian cabinet, Madbouly and his Lebanese counterpart, Nawaf Salam, co-chaired an expanded session of talks to discuss several issues of mutual interest, particularly ways to enhance security, stability, and peace across all Lebanese territories.

The two sides also discussed strengthening cooperation in various economic sectors.

During a press conference following the talks, the Lebanese PM expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s support for Lebanon in ending Israel's occupation of parts of southern Lebanon and halting ongoing Israeli hostilities.

Salam further commended Cairo’s ongoing support of Lebanon’s reform path, as well as its unwavering commitment to Lebanon’s unity and sovereignty under all circumstances.

According to the Egyptian cabinet, Mabdouly held another meeting with the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri. Madbouly praised the Lebanese parliament's role in providing the legislative framework for economic and financial reforms.

In return, Berri praised the historical ties between Egypt and Lebanon, noting that Egypt has supported Lebanon through various phases. He also commended Egypt’s efforts to support security and stability in southern Lebanon, praising its regional role and its efforts in addressing several Arab issues.

The Egyptian cabinet added that Mabdouly attended a meeting titled “On the Prospects of Economic and Trade Cooperation between Egypt and Lebanon.” Several officials representing economic authorities at the Lebanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry attended the meeting.
