According to the Egyptian presidency, the meeting addressed developments in Gaza, Sudan, and Libya, with both sides calling for an end to Israel’s war on Gaza and the consolidation of the ceasefire, and steps to prevent regional escalation. They also stressed the importance of preserving state sovereignty and territorial integrity across the region.

Lavrov, who is leading a Russian delegation attending the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum in Cairo, praised Egypt’s role in fostering regional stability and underscored the need for sustained coordination between the two countries.

El-Sisi highlighted the expanding strategic ties between Egypt and Russia, particularly in political and economic cooperation. He called for accelerating joint projects, including the Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) and construction of the Dabaa nuclear power plant, one of Egypt’s largest infrastructure projects.

The Egyptian president also welcomed the launch of the second ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, which began this week in Cairo, saying it aims to strengthen economic cooperation with African states and support development and stability on the continent.

Lavrov reaffirmed Moscow’s commitment to deepening relations with Egypt, saying Russia intends to build on agreements reached during El-Sisi’s visit to Moscow in 2015. He thanked Egypt for hosting the forum and said a third ministerial meeting is planned for 2026, while noting Russia’s intention to host a summit with Arab states next year.

The talks also covered the war in Ukraine. El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s support for a political solution to the conflict and said Cairo remains ready to support international mediation efforts.

Egypt has maintained diplomatic ties with both Russia and Ukraine since Moscow’s 2022 invasion, positioning itself as a neutral actor while seeking to shield its economy from the conflict’s fallout.
