In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed the country’s full confidence in “the keenness of both the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to handle the current developments in Yemen with wisdom.”
Cairo voiced trust in both nations' handling of the situation "within the framework of fraternal values … and in a manner that preserves Arab unity and the common Arab destiny, particularly during this sensitive phase for Yemen and the region."
The statement expressed Egypt’s deep appreciation for the efforts exerted by both Gulf countries’ leaderships in addressing the evolving situation in Yemen.
It added that Saudi and Emirati leadership are committed to achieving stability, preserving the country’s sovereignty, and safeguarding the interests of the Yemeni people.
Egypt reaffirmed its commitment to continued coordination with Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Yemeni stakeholders, and other regional and international actors to de-escalate tensions.
It will also press ahead with efforts to advance a comprehensive political settlement that fulfils the Yemeni people's aspirations for a safe and prosperous future while supporting regional security and stability.
Earlier Tuesday, Riyadh launched a "limited military operation" on the southern port of Mukalla, carrying out airstrikes against what it said was an unauthorized shipment of heavy weapons and armoured vehicles from the UAE destined for the separatist Southern Transitional Council (STC).
In an unusually sharp diplomatic move, the Saudi Foreign Ministry called the UAE’s actions a "threat to national security" and a "red line."
The Saudi-backed Yemeni government canceled its joint defence agreement with Abu Dhabi and ordered all Emirati forces to leave within 24 hours.
By Tuesday evening, the UAE Ministry of Defense announced it would withdraw its remaining military and counter-terrorism personnel from Yemen, while condemning allegations that it had pressured any Yemeni faction to carry out military operations threatening Saudi security or targeting its borders.
