The ERC, the national coordination body for aid delivery to Gaza, said the convoy carried food parcels and flour, medical and relief supplies, fuel, and essential winter supplies, including clothing items, blankets, and tents.
The convoy is part of the “Zad Al-Ezza: From Egypt to Gaza” initiative, launched in July 2025 to mitigate the humanitarian crisis.
The convoy coincides with the reopening of the Rafah border crossing on Sunday, the first time since May 2024. The reopening facilitates the transport of injured Palestinians to Egypt for medical treatment and allows Gaza residents to return home.
For the second consecutive day, the ERC has been facilitating crossing procedures for patients, coordinating with the Ministries of Health and Social Solidarity to ensure comprehensive medical and psychological care.
At the Rafah crossing’s service centres, volunteers provide pediatric support, hot meals, personal care items, and "Return Kits" for those heading back to the strip.
Since Israel launched its deadly war on Gaza in October 2023, Egypt has remained Gaza's primary lifeline, delivering over 800,000 tons of humanitarian supplies, representing around 70 percent of all aid sent to the strip.
These efforts, supported by 65,000 ERC volunteers, persist despite continued aggression that has violated the October ceasefire brokered by Egypt, the US, Qatar, and Turkey.
The health situation in Gaza remains “catastrophic,” according to the Director of the Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza, Mohamed Abu Salmiya.
In recent TV remarks, Abu Salmiya said that with 70 percent of essential medicines depleted, a specialized medical committee is now prioritizing the most critical cases for transfer to Egypt.
He noted that around 20,000 patients and injured are currently on waiting lists for urgent interventions unavailable within the strip.
Israel's genocidal war on Gaza, ongoing for more than two years, has left over 70,000 Palestinians killed and more than 170,000 injured, with 90 percent of the strip’s civilian infrastructure damaged.
