Egypt has voiced its "full support" for renewed negotiations between the United States and Iran over Tehran’s nuclear programme, saying diplomacy remains the only viable path to de-escalation and regional stability.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said Cairo welcomed ongoing diplomatic efforts, including talks that began the same day in Muscat, Oman, aimed at reviving dialogue between Washington and Tehran.

Egypt said the current diplomatic momentum offered a chance to reach a balanced agreement that addresses the concerns of all parties and avoids further escalation in a region already facing heightened tensions.

The ministry reiterated Cairo’s long-standing position that the Iranian nuclear issue cannot be resolved through military means, warning that any confrontation would have consequences for the entire Middle East.

It said Egypt would continue coordinating with regional partners in support of negotiations that preserve the interests of all sides and contribute to wider regional stability.

The statement also welcomed mediation efforts by Qatar and Pakistan, describing their roles as constructive and potentially helpful in narrowing gaps between the negotiating parties.

Beyond the immediate talks, Egypt renewed its call for the establishment of a Middle East free of weapons of mass destruction, urging all regional states to join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and place their nuclear facilities under comprehensive safeguards by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The comments come as Egypt steps up diplomatic engagement aimed at easing regional tensions linked to Iran. Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has held a series of calls over the past two weeks with senior regional and international officials, according to the ministry.

During those discussions, Abdelatty welcomed the Muscat talks, describing them as a development Cairo has long sought through sustained diplomatic contacts, and stressed the need for a peaceful, negotiated settlement that prevents the region from sliding into war.
