Badawi reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to the comprehensive strategic partnership with the EU, citing what he described as positive momentum in relations. He said Cairo was keen to continue consultations, strengthen dialogue, and exchange views on issues of mutual concern amid what he called growing shared challenges.
He also praised the participation of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and EU leaders in the Egypt-EU summit held in Brussels last October, describing it as historic and the first of its kind between the bloc and a partner from the Southern Mediterranean or the Middle East.
Badawi said the timing of the summit, amid complex regional and international circumstances, reflected the priority both sides attach to consolidating their strategic partnership and maximizing its benefits.
He highlighted the need for closer consultation on political, security, and economic challenges in the Mediterranean, as well as expanding economic and development cooperation between Egypt and EU member states.
The EU ambassadors congratulated Badawi on assuming his post and reaffirmed the depth of Egypt-EU relations. They said ties had seen a significant qualitative leap since President El-Sisi took office, culminating in their elevation to a “comprehensive strategic partnership.”
They also underscored the EU’s recognition of Egypt’s political and economic weight and expressed commitment to strengthening parliamentary relations between EU member states and Egypt’s House of Representatives.
