Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty spoke with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on the phone on Monday as part of ongoing consultations over the escalating conflict in the region.
Abdelatty expressed concern over developments in Lebanon and reaffirmed Cairo’s full support for the country and its people during what he described as a critical moment.
The call followed Israeli airstrikes earlier Monday that killed at least 52 people in Lebanon, after Hezbollah fired rockets into Israel in retaliation for the killing of Iran’s supreme leader in US-Israeli attacks.
Salam briefed Abdelatty on the impact of the Israeli strikes on Lebanon’s stability. Abdelatty emphasized the urgent need for a halt to military operations to prevent further escalation.
The Egyptian foreign minister reiterated his country’s support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, stressing the importance of protecting both national security and the well-being of the Lebanese people.
