Egypt has sought to contain the current regional escalation and shield the country from its fallout after months of mediation efforts aimed at preventing the crisis from erupting into open conflict, according to an analysis issued by the Ministry of State for Media.

The ministry said President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, speaking during the Armed Forces’ annual iftar banquet marking the anniversary of the 10th of Ramadan victory, defined the core pillars of Egypt’s stance: working to contain escalation, safeguarding Egypt’s stability, and sparing its people further repercussions.

According to the statement, Egypt had exerted “sincere and enlightened efforts” in recent months to avoid the current crisis by bridging gaps and mediating between the United States and Iran in pursuit of a negotiated agreement.

Cairo’s vision, it said, remains that wars carry severe consequences not only for the direct parties involved but also for neighbouring states and the broader region, particularly given the evolving nature of modern warfare.

The Egyptian President stressed that Egypt’s crisis-management approach is grounded in the belief that miscalculations can trigger serious humanitarian, economic, and security repercussions that disrupt regional balances — a warning it said applies directly to the present conflict and its far-reaching implications.

El-Sisi reiterated that Egypt has consistently called for de-escalation, calming tensions, and ultimately ending the fighting, despite the difficulty of achieving an immediate ceasefire under current conditions.

The statement also highlighted the president’s consultations with Gulf and other Arab leaders, underscoring Egypt’s rejection of attacks on states and its solidarity with Arab partners in preserving their security and stability.

Cairo further acknowledged that Egypt is directly affected by regional instability, citing potential disruptions to oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz and the continued impact on Suez Canal traffic, which has yet to recover to pre-October 2023 levels, resulting in significant financial losses.

Broader economic repercussions stemming from successive global crises since 2020 — including the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, the Gaza war, and the current conflict involving Iran — were also noted.

The ministry said the President sought to reassure Egyptians about domestic conditions, stating that the government has studied all possible scenarios and secured necessary reserves across key sectors despite uncertainty over the duration of the crisis.

El-Sisi concluded his speech by urging national unity and resilience, emphasising that Egypt’s stability and security depend not only on state institutions but also on the awareness and steadfastness of its people, while affirming that the country remains secure and capable of safeguarding its sovereignty.
