The statement came after Washington and Tehran agreed to a two-week ceasefire in the early hours of Wednesday, following weeks of escalation, in a move widely seen as a step toward renewed diplomacy.

President El-Sisi said the ceasefire announcement had brought “great relief to millions of peace-loving people around the world,” adding that he hopes it would lead to a lasting agreement to end the conflict and achieve prosperity for the region’s peoples.

He reaffirmed Egypt’s “full and unconditional support” for Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, as well as Jordan and Iraq, stressing that any forthcoming agreement must take into account their legitimate security concerns amid ongoing tensions.

El-Sisi also praised US President Donald Trump’s decision to “heed the voice of reason and uphold the values of humanity and peace,” calling on all parties to engage seriously in negotiations aimed at achieving lasting peace and peaceful coexistence.

Egypt, he added, will continue to support the security, stability, and prosperity of Gulf states, Iraq, and Jordan, while working to end conflicts and establish a just and comprehensive peace in the region and beyond.

Egypt has been part of a core group of countries involved in mediation efforts to secure the ceasefire, as regional actors moved quickly to contain the escalation and prevent a wider Middle East conflict.

Cairo has worked alongside Pakistan and Turkey to keep communication channels open between Washington and Tehran, transmitting proposals and helping bridge gaps on key de-escalation measures.

While differences remain, talks have shown cautious progress, with Iran submitting a counteroffer that US officials have described as a tentative but constructive signal.

Egypt has consistently framed its position around de-escalation, respect for state sovereignty, and opposition to any spillover of the conflict into Gulf countries, which it considers a cornerstone of Arab national security.

In recent days, President El-Sisi has intensified outreach to regional and international leaders, warning of the risks of further escalation. Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has also held a series of calls and meetings with counterparts and international envoys, including the US special envoy, to maintain diplomatic momentum.

The ceasefire announcement by Trump came hours before a deadline he had set for potential large-scale strikes on Iranian infrastructure, presenting the pause as a limited window to allow diplomacy to proceed.
