According to the Egyptian presidency, the signing, which took place during a meeting in Nicosia on the sidelines of the Arab-EU consultative meeting, marked the culmination of the distinguished course of historical and longstanding relations between both countries and peoples.
During the meeting, President El-Sisi expressed his appreciation for the Cypriot side’s hospitality and warm welcome.
He further praised the level of bilateral relations and cooperation between Egypt and Cyprus in various fields, pointing to the importance of continuing efforts to advance these relations in a way that achieves mutual interests, particularly in trade and investment, as well as in the sectors of labor, tourism, and energy.
The meeting also addressed the latest developments regarding linking Cypriot gas fields to Egyptian infrastructure, for the purposes of domestic consumption and export from Egypt.
For his part, the Cypriot leader welcomed President El-Sisi’s visit and his participation in the consultative meeting, stressing that the meeting represents an opportunity to exchange views on regional and international developments.
He praised the growing trajectory of bilateral relations between the two countries, referring to Egypt’s appreciated efforts in combating irregular migration, and the need for the EU to share the burden with Egypt due to its hosting of large numbers of refugees.
Christodoulides also commended the level of political consultation and coordination between Egypt and Cyprus on regional and international issues, in support of regional peace and security.
Additionally, both leaders discussed the latest regional developments, where President El-Sisi reviewed Egypt’s efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions in the region and restoring regional peace and stability, particularly in relation to the Iranian file.
The Cypriot President praised these efforts, expressing appreciation for Egypt’s role in this regard.
He also commended President El-Sisi’s valuable remarks during the meeting between EU countries and several regional partner states, as well as Egypt’s vision of the regional situation, which was highly appreciated by European leaders.
The two presidents also discussed developments in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, stressing the need for full implementation of the agreement to end the war in Gaza, the imperative of allowing humanitarian aid into the Strip without restrictions, and the urgent need to begin the reconstruction process.
