According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the two ministers reviewed ways to strengthen economic ties between Cairo and Ljubljana, with a particular focus on increasing Egyptian exports to European Union markets through Slovenia and enhancing logistics cooperation.
Abdelatty highlighted plans to establish a direct shipping route to facilitate the movement of Egyptian goods to Europe. He also discussed expanding cooperation in port infrastructure and operations beyond the existing partnership between Alexandria and Slovenia's Port of Koper to include other Egyptian ports, like Ain Sokhna and Damietta.
The Egyptian foreign minister welcomed the outcomes of the second session of the Egyptian-Slovenian Joint Economic Committee, held in Ljubljana in 2024, and expressed hope that the next round of talks would take place in Cairo later this year.
The ministers also discussed regional developments, including the Israeli war on Gaza and its military operations and illegal settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
Abdelatty stressed the importance of implementing the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, brokered by Cairo, Doha, Ankara, and Washington last October, ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid and supporting early recovery and reconstruction efforts.
He reiterated Egypt's support for a two-state solution based on the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state, in line with United Nations (UN) resolutions.
For her part, Fajon welcomed the growing ties between the two countries and expressed Slovenia's interest in expanding cooperation in maritime transport, port operations, and air connectivity.
