In a statement, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the Israeli strikes and shelling targeting areas in southern Syria, stressing that such actions constitute a clear breach of the sovereignty and unity of the Syrian Arab Republic and violate the UN Charter.
Egypt reiterated its firm rejection of any violations affecting the sovereignty or territorial integrity of Arab states and renewed its full solidarity with Syria, affirming its support for all efforts aimed at preserving the country's unity and sovereignty.
The statement came after one of the largest Israeli military operations in southern Syria in recent days, which targeted the village of Abdeen in the Yarmouk Basin in western Daraa governorate.
A state of cautious calm prevailed in the village early Monday after hours of Israeli military escalation that included a ground incursion, artillery shelling, and machine-gun fire from a military helicopter, according to Syrian media.
The escalation triggered panic among residents, forcing a number of families to flee to neighbouring villages. Civil defence teams affiliated with Syria's Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management continued assisting displaced civilians while Israeli drones remained active over the area.
According to Syria TV, Israeli forces withdrew shortly after 2am local time from Tal Al-Maghr and the outskirts of Abdeen towards the occupied territories and the Al-Jazeera military outpost near the village of Maariya. Drone surveillance, however, reportedly continued after the withdrawal.
Civil defence teams later entered the village to help displaced families, while military police and internal security forces were deployed around Abdeen to reinforce stability.
Local reports said the artillery shelling was accompanied by heavy machine-gun fire, prompting additional residents to leave their homes over fears of further escalation.
The Yarmouk Basin, located along the occupied Golan frontier and extending across western Daraa governorate near the Syrian-Jordanian-Palestinian border triangle, has witnessed near-daily Israeli incursions in recent months.
According to Syrian reports, more than 220 people have been detained during these operations, with around 45 reportedly still held by Israeli forces.
The Yarmouk Basin, which includes the towns and villages of Abdeen, Koya, Tseel, and Mzeirib, is considered one of Daraa governorate's most fertile agricultural regions.
