The agreement was reached during the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit in October 2025 in the presence of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and US President Donald Trump.
According to the Egyptian Presidency, El-Sisi and Kushner’s talks were held in Alamein.
The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Head of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service Minister Hassan Rashad.
During the meeting, both sides also addressed the latest developments in the Middle East.
President El-Sisi affirmed the need to resolve the various regional crises to preserve stability.
El-Sisi also emphasised the importance of continuing efforts to confront shared challenges, in light of both countries’ commitment to supporting regional and international security and stability.
According to the Egyptian Presidency, the talks also addressed Egypt-US ties.
President El-Sisi emphasized the pivotal and strategic relations Egypt and the US share, expressing his appreciation for the level of cooperation and coordination between the two countries across various fields of mutual interest.
For his part, Kushner valued the close coordination between Egypt and the US, expressing his appreciation for Egypt's efforts, as well as President El-Sisi personally, on various regional issues to promote regional peace and stability.
He further emphasized that Cairo is a key partner for Washington in the Middle East.
Kushner conveyed President Trump’s greetings to President El-Sisi, who appreciated the gesture and, in turn, asked that his greetings be conveyed to his US counterpart.
The meeting took place hours after a senior Hamas delegation, headed by political bureau chief Khalil Al-Hayya, held talks with Rashad, according to Al-Qahera News.
The talks addressed ways to consolidate the Gaza ceasefire deal and to continue implementing the outcomes of the Sharm El-Sheikh summit and the US President’s peace plan for Gaza.
For its part, Hamas praised Egypt’s efforts to promote stability and consolidate the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The Palestinian resistance group affirmed its commitment to implementing President Trump’s plan to end the suffering of Gaza residents and begin the reconstruction process.
Earlier, Al-Hayya arrived in Cairo on his first official visit to Egypt since assuming the leadership of Hamas’ political bureau, Al-Qahera News reported.
On 31 July, Hamas and other Palestinian factions accepted a roadmap for implementing the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
The roadmap, announced a day earlier by the US President, features the phased disarmament of Hamas and other armed resistance groups in Gaza, alongside the gradual withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from the Gaza Strip.
However, on 9 August, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the roadmap, saying Israel would not withdraw its forces until Hamas is "genuinely" disarmed.
Under phase one of the Gaza deal, brokered by Egypt, Turkey, and the US, Hamas and Israel agreed to a ceasefire, a detainee exchange, increased humanitarian aid, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Strip.
However, Israel has violated the deal, conducting daily strikes across Gaza, obstructing the delivery of humanitarian aid, and refusing to withdraw from the Strip, while gradually expanding the area of Gaza under its military occupation.
Since October 2023, Israel has killed 73,391 Palestinians, wounded 174,280 others, most of whom are women and children, while forcing more than two million residents to flee their homes.
The Israeli aggression has also caused widespread destruction across the Gaza Strip, severely damaging or destroying large parts of its residential areas, public facilities, and critical infrastructure.
