Suez Canal records highest daily ship movement in its history: SCA chairman

The Suez Canal recorded on Wednesday the highest number of daily ships passing through the canal in its history at 87 ships in both directions, Suez Canal Authority Chairman Osama Rabie said in a statement.

The ships that passed through the canal comprised 18 container ships, 26 bulk ships, 18 large oil tankers, 10 ships carrying liquefied natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas, and 15 ships of other types.

The total net tonnage that passed through the canal amounted to 4.8 million tonnes.

The number of ships passing through the canal from the north was 38 ships with a net tonnage of 2 million tonnes, while 49 ships crossed from the southern direction weighing a total of 2. 8 million tonnes, the statement said.

The navigation movement from the north was led by the MSC ISTANBUL ship, with a total tonnage of 182,000 tonnes, on its journey from Morocco and to Singapore.

The MSC ANNA ship, raising the Liberian flag, came at the head of the southern convoy with a total tonnage of 203,000 tons coming from Saudi Arabia and heading to Egypt.
