The state is implementing – in partnership with private sector – development projects worth EGP 1.1 trillion, El-Sisi said, adding that these projects have created jobs for more than 3 million families.
During the inauguration of a major industrial complex in Assiut on Wednesday, the president stressed that this large number of development projects could not have been carried out without the contribution of private sector companies.
The president said the private sector is a key partner in the country's development process, asserting that the state seeks to encourage non-state-run companies to participate further in housing, agricultural, energy, transport, and roads projects.
A private sector company has acquired ventures worth EGP 75 billion over the past seven years, the president said, without revealing the company’s name.
In a speech during the event, Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir said that only three public companies are working on the state's transportation projects, and that a great number of private companies are working with the government on the country's first monorail train, the Ain Sokhna Port and other projects.
"We are very serious about involving private sector companies in national projects," El-Sisi stressed, assuring "the state is one family of private and public sectors, and the ultimate goal is to achieve what is in the nation’s interest."
The president inaugurated a major complex for producing benzene at the Assiut Petroleum Refining Company in addition to several infrastructure projects in the area.
The Assiut complex, the largest petroleum complex in Upper Egypt to date, is one of the state’s strategic projects to develop Upper Egypt by securing benzene supply to the region.
During the event in Assiut, El-Sisi also inaugurated over video conference a number of other infrastructure projects in the region, including the Abu-Quras Water Plant, a hospital for treating liver disease, Deir Mawas Central Hospital, Malawy Specialised Hospital, and Samalout Model Hospital in Minya.
The president also inaugurated the expansion of several water plants in Qena, the Faculty and Hospital of Dentistry at the University of Assiut, the Children’s Specialised Hospital and Isis Hospital for Women and Childbirth in Luxor, and a hospital for mental health in Sohag.
