In a statement on Tuesday, the governorate said that the projects include the construction of a flyover on the Middle Road (King Salman Road), as well as five axes linking El-Salam Road, the Middle Road and the Ring Road.
The projects also include the construction of an environmentally-friendly municipality building, central park, mall, and the bank complex in El-Nour district, according to the statement.
It added that the projects include the construction of three solar power plants, two garages for electric-powered public transport buses, and electric vehicle fast charging stations.
Minister of the Environment Yasmine Fouad, who is also the COP27 ministerial envoy and coordinator, previously announced that Sharm El-Sheikh will be completely free of single-use plastic bags as of June, in parallel with various other measures to turn it into a green city.
In addition to combating use of plastic, Fouad also explained that the city is witnessing a set of other measures and environmentally-friendly projects in electric transportation, waste management, the use of renewable energy, and green tourism in hotels and diving centres.
Egypt launched on Thursday the National Strategy for Climate Change 2050, which aims to effectively address the repercussions of climate change in a way that contributes to improving the quality of life for Egyptians, achieving sustainable development and economic growth, and preserving natural resources and ecosystems.
