Uber Egypt has raised the prices of its services in Cairo and Alexandria, according to an email sent to their clients on Thursday.

“We had to revise fare pricing on the app with a slight adjustment in light of the new fuel prices drivers are facing whilst ensuring that millions of riders can continue to move around cities safely and affordably,” the email said.

In mid-July, Egypt’s Fuel Automatic Pricing Committee (FAPC) raised fuel prices for various octanes by EGP 0.5 to EGP 1 per litre, keeping the price of mazut for electricity and food industries fixed, for the third quarter of the year due to the global rise in oil prices.

The base fare for an average UberX ride in Cairo has been raised from EGP 8.5 to EGP 9, and the price per kilometre has been raised to EGP 3 from EGP 2.9.

The base fare for an average UberX saver rose to EGP 7.8 from EGP 7.25, and the price per kilometre to EGP 2.65 from EGP 2.47.

The base fare for an average Uber comfort rose to EGP 12.4, and the price per kilometre to EGP 4.52.

The base fare for the taxi service which was launched recently in Egypt by Uber rose to EGP 7.60 and the price per kilometre to EGP 2.80

For an UberX ride in Alexandria, the new base fare costs EGP 8.7, up from EGP 8.3, with EGP 3.15 per kilometre up from the previous EGP 3.

The base fare for an average UberX Saver has been raised to EGP 7.7 from EGP 7.1, with EGP 2.75 per kilometre up from the previous EGP 2.55.

This is the second price raise Uber has announced this year, after raising prices in May.
