The tire blowout caused the driver to lose control of the steering wheel. As a result, the vehicle flipped over, bringing the traffic on the road to a temporary halt.
The accident happened early on Wednesday north of Faiyum.
Several ambulances were dispatched to the site of the accident and several of the injured were transferred to a nearby hospital to receive necessary treatment.
Egypt has witnessed a steady decline in the number of road accidents over the past years.
This coincides with national efforts to improve the country’s road network through tightening traffic laws and launching the National Road Project.
The road project, launched in 2014, has developed and extended Egypt’s 23,500 km road network and has constructed and/or upgraded 7,000 km of highway so far.
Egypt has since seen a decline in both road injuries and deaths.
A report issued by the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics in November 2021 highlighted that compared to the previous year, injuries dropped by 28.9 percent and deaths by 8.9 percent.
