The reshuffle included 58 new appointments and 67 transfers of mayors, the ministry said in a statement.

The reshuffle is part of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's directives to overhaul municipal services and includes the first-ever woman secretary-general among eight newly appointed secretary-generals.

In a press conference announcing the reshuffle, Amna instructed the officials to clear obstacles in the way of implementing the Decent Life initiative, which, according to the presidency, aims to "provide a decent life for the most vulnerable groups nationwide."

The minister also said the officials should address building violations, garbage collection and transgressions on state property.

The minister stressed that municipal officials should be present to respond the people's demands and hold weekly meetings with constituents.

Municipal services have seen significant investments, the most recent of which was EGP 12.3 billion spent on overhauling municipal services in 2022, according to official statements.
