Ambulances were dispatched to the scene, transferring the victims to a nearby hospital.
Authorities say the wounded suffer from serious to moderate injuries, including abrasions and bruises.
The Public Prosecution is investigating the deadly incident.
To curb road accidents and ease traffic jams, Egypt launched the 2014 National Road Project to improve the country’s transportation network.
The government developed and widened much of Egypt’s roads by constructing or upgrading 7,000 kilometres of its 23,000-kilometre network.
In addition, authorities recently installed a large number of cutting-edge speed radars and cameras on highways throughout the country.
They also introduced harsher penalties for traffic violations.
A 9.3 percent decrease in road-related injuries was recorded in 2021 compared to 2020, a Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) report issued in August 2022 said.
Nationwide traffic injuries in 2021 reached 51,511—down from 56,789 in 2020— according to the report.
However, CAPMAS said that in 2021, road accidents claimed the lives of 7,101 people, up from the 6,164 deaths recorded a year earlier, a 15.2 percent increase.
