The increase applies to fares on all public buses, taxis and microbuses – within cities and between governorates.

The fares for buses were raised by 50 piastres (half an EGP) for most routes and by EGP 1 for routes longer than 40 km.

The ministry instructed that banners and stickers be displayed at all transportation hubs to inform the public on new fares.

It also designated two hotlines -114 and 15496 - to receive complaints about any overpricing in order to take necessary actions.

On Wednesday, in its quarterly review meeting, the Fuel Automatic Pricing Committee raised the price of diesel by 13.7 percent - from EGP 7.25 to EGP 8.25, citing “the increase in international prices for crude oil and petroleum products and the exchange rate of the pound against the dollar.”
