The incident occurred on the Eastern Desert highway linking Upper Egypt with Cairo.

Beni Suef Governor Mohamed Hany Ghoneim visited the victims at the Beni Suef Specialised Hospital and ordered that they be provided with all necessary healthcare.

The injuries ranged from broken limbs and bruises to head injuries, according to the governorate.

The victims have been examined, with detailed medical reports prepared on their condition, the governorate said, adding that some cases will require surgery.

The governor also ordered gifting toys to the injured children to alleviate their psychological shock due to the crash.

The Public Prosecution is investigating the incident to determine the circumstances and causes of the accident, according to a police statement.

As of Thursday, Egypt has received more than 56,000 people, including at least 52,500 Sudanese, fleeing the deadly armed clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), according to the UN Refugees Agency (UNHCR) Egypt.

Egypt, which has stepped up efforts over the past years to develop its road network, saw a 9.3 percent decline in injuries due to road crashes in 2021, according to annual data by the official statistical agency CAPMAS.

However, the country recorded a 15.2 percent surge in related deaths, according to the agency.
