Developing ports will help put Egypt on the global map of competition in different fields and allow it to benefit from its capabilities and location, the president said during the inauguration.

The Tahya Misr multipurpose maritime terminal will play a vital role in transforming the Port of Alexandria into a regional and global hub for trade and logistics.

The president added that the development projects extend to Alexandria, Abu Qir, and Gargoub ports, stressing that these projects benefit Egypt's future generations.  

The terminal is meant to be a green smart station that utilizes the best methods for handling goods. The station includes half a million square metres of trading yards and is divided into three trading stations: containers, general cargo, and cars.  

The terminal is expected to function as the heart of the logistical station established behind the Alexandria port, with an annual capacity of 12-15 million tons of goods.

The Alexandria port is set to become "the pearl of ports in the Mediterranean Sea," Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir said at the event.   

In response to requests from Jordan and Iraq, Egypt has established a new protocol to facilitate the flow of goods through a trade line known as the "Arab Trade Line," said El-Wazir.

This new line will enable goods to be transported from the two countries and Gulf nations via land routes to Aqaba, Jordan, before being transferred to Taba and Nuweiba via ferries owned by the three countries, he added.

From there, the goods will be transported through the recently constructed tunnels to Port Said for export to European countries, noted the minister of transport.

The president emphasized the importance of the Taba tunnel as a crucial link in the transportation of goods directly to Port Said.

Additionally, El-Wazir announced the ongoing development of the Arish Port to bolster yacht tourism in Egypt.

"There are 500,000 yachts in the Mediterranean Sea, yet Egypt's share [of yacht tourism] is weak," the president said.

"This is why yacht permissions must be approved within half an hour, the president added.

The president also inaugurated other projects through video conferences, including the 6th of October Dry Port, as well as development work at the Salloum Land Port and Damietta Port's Breakwater.

Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait emphasized the importance of complementing the Ministry of Transport's efforts by properly regulating customs to make Egypt a centre of global trade.

To achieve this goal, the customs processes have been developed through five tracks, aimed at reducing costs and increasing productivity in the shortest possible time.

The first track focuses on legislation, with the introduction of a new customs law in 2020. The remaining tracks include the automation and digitization of customs procedures, streamlining of customs procedures and directing change, enhancing human development in the field, and outlining a vision for the future.

15 logistical centres were formed that covered 99.9 per cent of Egypt's imports and exports and lowered custom release time, Maait asserted.
