Egypt s Nasr company introduces eco-friendly bus to operate experimentally in new capital
The bus has already been handed over to ACTA, a local mass transit company responsible for mass transportation services in the NAC.
El-Nasr will soon sign an agreement with ACTA to provide the required number of buses for a full mass transportation system in the New Administrative Capital, according to a statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Public Sector.
Minister of Public Sector Mahmoud Esmat noted that an “integrated” plan is currently in progress to revamp the decades-old company, including modernizing and expanding its production lines to produce electric vehicles of various sizes.
Esmat added that negotiations – “in advanced stages” – are now ongoing with a host of international companies to transfer and localize electrical vehicle manufacturing technology.
In November, El-Nasr company sold tourist buses and minibuses worth EGP 35 (nearly $1.1 million), according to the statement.
The company is poised to conclude multiple agreements to manufacture 50 buses and 30 minibuses, with the local share of their manufacture exceeding 60 percent.
El-Nasr was founded in 1960 as the first automotive production firm in the Middle East.
The company has previously specialized in assembling Italian Fiat cars. It also produced the famous "Shahin" budget car, a hybrid of the Turkish model of Fiat.
