The extension – the second part of the line's third phase – comprises six stations: Sudan, Imbaba, El-Bohi, Al-Qawmia Al-Arabiya, Ring Road, and the Rod El-Farag Axis, to serve citizens and students in these high-populated areas in the Greater Cairo.

This comes under the directives of Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, to provide advanced, safe, and distinguished mass transportation services to citizens, the ministry statement said.

The next extension on the line – the third part of the line’s third phase – extending from Kit Kat station to Cairo University station has been under trial operation without passengers since early November.

This third line is integrated with other metro lines and public transport means across Egypt, connecting passengers to the first line at Nasser station, the second line at Attaba station (and at Cairo University station in the future), and with the planned sixth line at Abbasiya station.

It is also linked to the Light Rail Transit (LRT) at the Adly Mansour Central Station, the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service on the Ring Road, the East Nile Monorail at the Stadium Station, and the West Nile Monorail at the Nile Valley Station.
