The meeting focused on the status of the implementation of the comprehensive development plan of these governorates, according to a cabinet statement.

During the meeting, Assistant to the Chief of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority Ahmed Ismail outlined the key points of the strategic developmental vision for North and Central Sinai, detailing the implementation status of the 500,000-acre reclamation project in Central and North Sinai.

He also reviewed the results of an integrated study for the development and cultivation of 82,000 acres out of a total of 109,000 acres in the Rafah and Sheikh Zuweid regions, added the statement.

Egypt’s ambitious national project for Sinai development, announced by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in 2014, aims to settle 3 million citizens in this long-neglected region of Egypt.

In December 2023, the Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) issued a report highlighting the national efforts in Sinai's development.

The report focused on investment projects, revealing that public investments allocated for national projects in Sinai reached EGP 73.3 billion in the fiscal year 2022/2023.

The sum represents a remarkable increase of over 15 times compared to the 4.8 billion pounds in 2013/2014, according to the IDSC’s report.
