The victims were standing on the side of the road when the driver lost control of the steering wheel, causing the bus to crash into the citizens, according to the initial investigation.

Ambulances rushed to the scene and transferred the victims to hospitals.

The Public Prosecution has initiated an investigation into the accident.

The bus driver was taken into custody and ordered to be tested for drugs.

The Ring Road links the main highways in Greater Cairo, which includes Cairo, Giza, and Qalyoubia governorates.

The Ring Road is being expanded from four to seven lanes in each direction, as part of the country’s plan to upgrade the road network.

The government also plans to expand it to eight lanes in each direction on the El-Monib and El-Warraq bridges.

Fatalities resulting from road accidents in Egypt in 2023 declined to 5,861, from 7,762 in 2022, while injuries increased to 71,016 in 2023, from 55,991 in 2022, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
