The accident occurred at kilometre 61, en route to Alexandria. According to the initial investigation, the truck crashed into the tricycle causing the fatal accident.

First responders rushed to the site and transported the victims to Amiriya General Hospital.

The Public Prosecution has initiated an investigation into the accident.

Egypt reported 5,861 road accident fatalities in 2023, down from 7,762 in 2022.

However, injuries increased to 71,016 from 55,991 over the same period, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The government has launched a plan to expand and upgrade the road network and improve road safety measures to reduce such accidents.
