According to initial investigation, the accident occurred at kilometre 100 of the Qena-Sohag road when the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn.
Fifteen ambulances were dispatched to the scene, where the injured were taken to Qena General Hospital and the bodies of the dead to the hospital morgue.
An investigation into the incident is underway.
In recent years, the government has been working to reduce road accidents by improving road safety measures as part of Egypt's efforts to expand and upgrade its road network.
According to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), fatalities from road accidents in Egypt declined to 5,861 in 2023, compared to 7,762 in 2022. However, injuries increased to 71,016, from 55,991 in the same period.
