The bus, which was en route from the university to Cairo, overturned on Al-Galala Road in the direction of Zaafarana-Suez near Ain Sokhna, while the students were returning home after a day of classes.

The injured have been transported to the Suez Medical Complex, the ministry said.

In TV statements, Suez Governor Tarek El-Shazly said the bus was coming from Galala and heading towards Ain Sokhna. The bus collided with the street island in the middle of the road and overturned, according to El-Shazly.

The Egyptian Ambulance Authority dispatched 24 equipped ambulances to the scene.

Local authorities pursue assessing the situation, while the Public Prosecution has been notified to begin investigations.

Road accident injuries in Egypt increased by 8.7 percent in 2022 compared to 2021, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

Accordingly, the government has implemented a plan to expand and upgrade the country’s road network and improve road safety measures to reduce road mishaps.
