The incident occurred at approximately 3:10pm local time near the Mariouteya crossing, according to a statement from the Egyptian National Railways Authority.
The railway authority said the loader was crossing the tracks from an unauthorized location, adding that it was abandoned by its driver after the collision.
No injuries were reported, and cranes were deployed to return the derailed cars to the tracks.
Train service on the line was not significantly disrupted, the railway authority added.
The railway authority urged citizens and motorists to exercise caution around railway crossings and to only cross the tracks at designated locations to avoid accidents.
On Sunday, a locomotive en route from Qena crashed into the rear of a passenger train travelling from Aswan to Cairo, derailing two carriages into a watercourse and leaving three people killed and dozens injured.
