According to CAPMAS’s annual report on road and train accidents, released on Sunday, Cairo recorded the highest number of fatalities (766), while Suez recorded the lowest number (six).
The highest fatalities (527) were recorded in April, while the lowest (384) were in November.
The accidents resulted in the death of 4,397 males and 863 females.
The highest number of fatalities occurred among youths under 15 (1,219), while the lowest (218) occurred among children under five.
In the road user category, the highest fatality rate was among pedestrians (2,125), while the lowest was among passengers (1,174).
The road accident fatality-to-injury ratio was 6.9 deaths per 100 injuries in 2024, compared to 8.3 in 2023—a 16.9 percent decrease.
The mortality rate was 4.9 deaths per 100,000 people in 2024, compared to 5.6 in 2023—a decrease of 12.5 percent.
Road injuries
Meanwhile, road traffic injuries increased to 76,362 in 2024, up from 71,016 in 2023—a 7.5 percent increase.
Dakahlia Governorate recorded the highest number of injuries (15,563 cases), while Suez recorded the lowest (39 cases).
In 2024, the highest number of road accident injuries occurred in October (7,155), while the lowest occurred in February (5,241).
About 61,853 males were injured, compared to 14,509 females in 2024.
Age group analysis showed that the highest number of injuries occurred in individuals under 15 (24,745), followed by those aged 15 to 25 (13,531). People aged 65 and above had the lowest injury rate (2,004).
Passengers were most susceptible to injuries (22,845), while drivers were the least (11,190).
The injury rate stood at 71.7 per 100,000 people in 2024, compared to 67.5 in 2023—an increase of 6.2 percent.
Train accidents
The number of train accidents increased by 21.5 percent: from 181 in 2023 to 220 in 2024.
The central region reported the highest number of accidents (49), while the lowest number (31) occurred in the East Delta region.
Train accidents resulted in 57 deaths and 104 injuries in 2024.
Accidents involving pedestrians in connection with railways caused the death of 727 and left 324 injured in 2024.
Five railway workers died and 225 were injured in train-related accidents in 2024.
The train accident fatality-to-injury ratio was 54.8 deaths per 100 injuries in 2024, compared to 103.9 in 2023.
