International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO)
In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said this achievement highlights Egypt’s prominence in civil aviation and underscores ICAO’s trust in the country’s active engagement with specialised international organisations.
The ministry added that Egypt’s election also reflects the results of the state’s diplomatic efforts to boost its international presence and reinforce its role in shaping a multilateral system that supports Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) regionally and globally.
Furthermore, the foreign ministry affirmed that Egypt’s seat on the ICAO council will also help influence global air transport policies, improve the safety and security of civil aviation, promote international trade and tourism, and advance the interests of developing nations and regional blocs.
Created in 1944, ICAO is a specialised agency of the United Nations that promotes safe and orderly international civil aviation development, setting standards and regulations for aviation safety, security, efficiency, and regularity.
