Egypt, US sign MoU to boost aviation security at Cairo International Airport

Egypt signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United States to provide an American grant aimed at enhancing aviation security through the supply of advanced screening equipment for Cairo International Airport and specialized training programs for airport security personnel.

The agreement, signed at the ministry’s headquarters, marks a new step in the long-standing partnership between Egypt and the United States in the field of civil aviation and reflects the strength of the two countries' strategic relations.

The MoU was signed by Heros Mustafa Garg, the US ambassador to Egypt, and Magdy Ishaq, chairman of Cairo Airport Company, in the presence of Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh Hefny and senior officials from the US Embassy in Cairo.

During the signing ceremony, Minister Hefny emphasized that Egypt places great importance on the safety and security of civil aviation, noting that the MoU reflects the depth of bilateral cooperation and the shared commitment to enhancing technical collaboration and exchanging expertise.

He added that the initiative will further strengthen the efficiency of Egypt’s aviation security system and underscores the strategic partnership between the two countries in air transport safety.

Hefny also praised the role of the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in supporting Egypt’s ongoing efforts to modernize security measures and adopt the latest screening technologies. He said the introduction of advanced equipment represents a qualitative leap in Cairo International Airport’s security infrastructure, improving safety levels and streamlining passenger flow.

For her part, Ambassador Heros Mustafa Garg described the signing as “a new chapter in US–Egypt cooperation at Cairo International Airport,” built on the strength of their enduring partnership and shared commitment to safety, security, and progress.

“We deeply value this opportunity to work side by side with Egypt to achieve our common goals of strengthening regional security, advancing the aviation sector, and supporting global safety,” she said.
