In a report monitoring internet application usage over 24 hours in 2026, the NTRA said fixed internet usage also jumped by 36 percent, with an additional one million users subscribing to fixed-line services.
Entertainment-related applications recorded the highest growth rates, reaching up to 60 percent year-on-year.
According to the data, short-form entertainment videos attracted 42.6 million users, generating around 14.6 million viewing hours daily, marking a 60 percent increase. Streaming platforms saw even higher growth, with 52.4 million viewers consuming 43.7 million hours of content per day, up 67 percent.
Email services recorded 16 million users sending approximately 14.2 million messages daily, an increase of 12 percent.
Map search services reached 22.6 million users, with 46.2 million daily searches, up 29 percent.
E-commerce platforms drew 29.8 million users, logging 10.5 million daily visits, a 10 percent increase. General web browsing and downloads remained the most widely used service, with 65.6 million users and 187.5 billion daily visits, rising by 12 percent.
Social media platforms accounted for 54.3 million users and 25.2 billion daily visits, showing a modest 5 percent increase.
Search engines were used by 55 million users conducting 64.1 billion daily searches, up 13 percent.
Online gaming engaged 31 million users, generating 1.8 million hours of gameplay daily, a 21 percent increase.
Messaging applications recorded 34.8 million users exchanging around 471.8 billion instant messages per day, up 6 percent.
Live streaming activity also expanded, with 13,300 content creators producing 4,600 hours of live video daily, marking a 35 percent rise.
Meanwhile, remote meetings—used for education and work—reached 6.5 million users, totaling 159.5 million hours per day, an increase of 7 percent.
The NTRA said the figures highlight the rapid growth of Egypt’s digital ecosystem and the increasing reliance on internet-based services across all sectors of daily life.
