Passenger numbers passing through the airport totalled 3,133,767 in the month, compared with 2,869,522 in August 2025, according to operational data covering 1 to 31 August. This was an increase of 264,245 passengers from the same month last year.
Flight traffic also increased. The airport handled 22,053 flights in August, up from 19,895 a year earlier, an increase of 2,158 flights, or 11 percent.
The increase comes as the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation work to improve operations and services at Cairo airport. The state-owned airport holding company has also been expanding infrastructure and airport capacity to keep pace with rising passenger and flight numbers.
Magdy Ishaq, chairman of Cairo Airport Company, said the continued increase in passengers and flights reflects the efficiency of the airport’s operations. He credited the “continuous efforts” of various sectors and staff for improving performance and services for travellers.
Ishaq added that Cairo Airport Company is continuing to implement plans to improve operations, raise service standards, and expand capacity to meet the expected increase in air traffic. He said the efforts support Cairo Airport’s role as one of Egypt’s most important aviation hubs and a main gateway for international tourism and trade.
August’s figures extend a growth trend recorded earlier in the year, when the airport recorded 9 percent passenger growth in the first quarter, handling more than eight million travellers between January and March.
The increase comes amid wider modernization efforts at Cairo airport.
On 25 August, authorities began trials of a Russian-developed radar system known as Galaxy at the airport’s control tower, as part of wider upgrades to navigation infrastructure, runways, and airport facilities.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly reviewed progress on the airport’s Terminal 4 expansion on 4 August. Officials said the new terminal would raise Cairo airport’s overall capacity to about 70 million passengers a year, with Terminal 4 alone designed to handle 40 million passengers annually.
Data released in June showed Egyptian airports nationwide handled 9.4 million passengers and 70,700 flights between January and April, up 6.8 percent and 7.4 percent, respectively, from the same period in 2025, according to nationwide airport data.
