Jordan’s semi-official Al-Mamlaka TV reported that 10 of the 22 people killed were Jordanians.
The Health ministry has activated its central operations room as soon as it received the report and dispatched 20 ambulances and medical teams evacuated the injured and administered first aid at the scene.
Health Minister Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar directed Ahmed El-Sobky, head of the Egypt Healthcare Authority, to provide the injured with the highest level of medical care. The minister also ordered the provision of all necessary medications and equipment, as well as continued coordination with authorities in South Sinai Governorate, the spokesperson added.
The ministry said medical teams were working around the clock to treat the injured and closely monitor their condition.
The crash is the latest in a series of deadly road accidents in Egypt this year, renewing concerns about safety on the country’s coastal highways.
Wednesday’s crash is the second major road disaster in Egypt in less than a month. On 11 August 2026, a collision between two vehicles carrying day labourers on the Al-Dawawis link road in Ismailia Governorate killed 18 people and injured about 30, with the death toll rising in the days after the crash.
Road deaths have been rising nationally. Traffic fatalities rose 10.8 percent to 5,829 in 2025, up from 5,260 the previous year, according to Egypt’s official statistics agency CAPMAS.
Egypt's cabinet approved tougher traffic penalties in December 2025, raising fines for speeding, unlicensed driving, and other violations as part of a wider effort to reduce road deaths.
South Sinai’s coastal roads have seen fatal bus accidents before. A bus overturned on the same international road near Sharm El-Sheikh on 27 April 2022, killing two people and injuring 44 in a crash whose cause was never confirmed.
The health ministry extended its condolences to the victims’ families and wished all those injured a speedy recovery.
