President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi instructed on Sunday the provision of the financial resources needed for Egypt's pharmaceutical industry, the Egyptian presidency stated.

In a meeting with the ministers and officials concerned, El-Sisi asked for an integrated plan to acquire the capacity and technology required for pharmaceutical production through working with the various parties concerned and companies with global experience in the field.

The meeting tackled the national strategy for developing the pharmaceutical industry in Egypt and updates on the national project for the manufacturing and assembly of plasma derivatives. El-Sisi also followed up on the executive position to establish national centres for training medical professionals.

El-Sisi reviewed studies on the strategy to support the pharmaceutical industry in Egypt. The studies were prepared by a specialised committee in cooperation with international companies.

In addition to exporting medical supplies, Egyptian pharmaceutical factories meet about 80 percent of Egyptians' demands, the presidential spokesman stated following the meeting.

The meeting tackled the national efforts in partnership with the Spanish Grifols company to achieve self-sufficiency in plasma derivatives through the establishment of plasma collection centres nationwide.

Progress made to establish advanced regional centres to train medical and healthcare professional cadres in Egypt was also discussed.

The president was also briefed on the coronavirus situation, including local and global infection rates, as well as the ongoing national vaccination campaign.
