Egypt reports 889 new coronavirus cases, 48 deaths on Monday

Egypt reported 889 new coronavirus cases on Monday, bringing the total infection tally officially to 325,508 since the outbreak began in February 2020, said Health Ministry in its daily coronavirus update statement.

The ministry also reported 48 new Covid-19 related deaths in the past 24 hours nationwide, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 18,333

The statement added that 755 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 274,762

Earlier Monday, Egypt received the third batch of 1,058,400 shots of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine (Janssen) through the African Vaccine Acquisition Trust in cooperation with the African Export-Import Bank, the Ministry of Health said.

Egypt received the first and second batches of 261,000 and 525,600 doses, respectively, of the US vaccine in August. 

Egypt contracted with the African Export-Import Bank in May to import 20 million Johnson & Johnson doses, which are currently designated by the ministry for travellers.
