The shipment is a grant from the Chinese government within the framework of Egyptian-Chinese cooperation to face the pandemic, the ministry added.

This delivery raises the total number of doses received by Egypt to over 74 million, including the Sinopharm, Sinovac, AstraZeneca, Sputnik V, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, and Moderna vaccines.

Thus far, vaccination centres nationwide have administered around 38 million doses to 25 million citizens since the start of the vaccination campaign in January, according to health officials.

The government has set a goal to vaccinate 40 million citizens by the end of 2021. The country has thus far allocated 1,079 vaccination centres nationwide and is planning to establish more in the near future.
