In its daily statement, Egypt’s health ministry said that 60 new coronavirus-related deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours nationwide, raising the total number of deaths from the virus to 18,949.
The statement added that 539 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 281,864.
Cairo received on Friday morning 3,575,040 Moderna coronavirus vaccine doses, the country’s second and largest shipment of the American vaccine within a week.
This adds to 784,280 Moderna doses the country received late in October, raising the total number of doses received by Egypt to over 77 million, including the Sinopharm, Sinovac, AstraZeneca, Sputnik V, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, and Moderna vaccines.
Thus far, vaccination centres nationwide have administered around 38 million doses to 25 million citizens since the start of the vaccination campaign in January, according to health officials.
The government has set a goal of vaccinating 40 million citizens by the end of 2021. The country has thus far allocated 1,079 vaccination centres nationwide and is planning to establish more in the near future.
