Under a government decree, unvaccinated employees will not be allowed into workplaces as of tomorrow unless they provide a negative PCR test every week. Additionally, unvaccinated citizens will not be allowed to enter any government building starting 1 December.

A survey, conducted by the Egyptian Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Centre (IDSC) and released on Sunday, found that 69.5 percent of those questioned supported the step against unvaccinated employees.

The survey also found that another 2.2 percent supported the step on the condition that offering an effective vaccine, with no side effects and with easy access to the shots.

The IDSC added that 14.1 percent opposed the step, while 14.2 percent of those questioned did not offer an opinion on the move.

Furthermore, 62.7 percent of those questioned backed the government decision of barring unvaccinated citizens from entering government offices as of 1 December, while 3.1 gave a conditional approval.

Also, 20.9 percent of respondents disagreed with the step, while another 13.3 percent refused to offer an opinion concerning the decision, according to the survey.

Egypt has started a mass vaccination campaign in January, seeking to inoculate up to 40 million citizens by end of 2021 to reach herd immunity.

To reach the goal, the country has designated over 1,000 vaccination centres nationwide, with those finding difficulty dealing with online registration offered immediate inoculation through mobile medical convoys.

As part of the country's vaccination programme, staff and university students have also been mandated to receive vaccination in order to enter campuses in the new school year that started on 9 October, with many universities announcing that unvaccinated students and employees will not be allowed into education premises as of Monday.

Egypt has administrated some 38 coronavirus vaccine doses to some 25 million citizens so far.
